Job description

Saga is a legal innovation company on a mission to remove the friction between legal expertise and real-world impact, so lawyers can focus on what matters the most: people, ethics, and impact. Founded in Norway and built for the legal profession from day one, we integrate with local legal sources across jurisdictions and are currently available in 12 languages. In just 18 months, we've grown to 70+ employees and 5,000+ users across 20+ countries - with market leadership in Norway and the Netherlands, and active expansion across Europe.

We believe technology shouldn't replace legal reasoning, but strengthen it - so the law can work as it's meant to: aligned, accountable, and capable of delivering justice for everyone.

Your role as Design Engineer

This role is for a design-minded engineer who cares deeply about product quality and believes great user experiences are built through thoughtful implementation - not just great designs. If you have a sharp eye for detail, enjoy shipping polished interfaces, and are comfortable making improvements directly in code, this is an opportunity to have a visible impact across our product.

As Design Engineer, you'll own UI/UX quality across Saga's system. Working closely with Product Design and Engineering, you'll identify usability issues, improve visual consistency, and implement high-quality frontend improvements directly through clean pull requests. You'll bridge design and engineering, ensuring design intent is preserved in production while keeping our user guide accurate and up to date. Success in this role comes from shipping polished experiences, maintaining high engineering standards, and raising the overall quality of the product without slowing development down.

Job requirements

What you'll be doing

  • Own UI/UX quality across the product by continuously auditing the live application and shipping small, low-risk frontend improvements directly through production-ready PRs.

  • Review every new feature for usability, accessibility, consistency, and implementation quality, ensuring design intent is maintained from concept to release.

  • Run a regular UX review process, maintain a prioritized backlog of improvements, and drive product polish without adding engineering overhead.

  • Maintain Mintlify user guide so it stays aligned with the product and updated within one sprint of every release.

  • Independently implement UI improvements while clearly triaging and delegating business logic or functional issues to the appropriate engineering teams.

  • Collaborate closely with Design, Product, and Engineering to continuously improve the user experience and frontend quality across Saga.

What you bring to our team

  • Experience in Design Engineering, Frontend Engineering, or a product-focused development role, with working knowledge of React, Next.js, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.

  • Strong visual craftsmanship, demonstrated through a portfolio showcasing polished UI, thoughtful typography, spacing, hierarchy, and interaction design.

  • Solid understanding of UX best practices, usability heuristics, accessibility (WCAG AA), and modern frontend workflows including Git and code reviews.

  • Highly autonomous with excellent prioritization skills—you proactively identify opportunities, own improvements end-to-end, and require minimal direction.

  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to explain design decisions, collaborate across teams, and cleanly separate UI work from engineering logic.

  • Practical AI fluency, using AI tools daily to accelerate development, improve code quality, and continuously learn new technologies.

Our team & culture

We're a team of lawyers, engineers, designers, and builders across multiple countries, with a startup mindset - flexible, fast-moving, and focused on what matters. We don't believe in rigid structures or unnecessary processes, but we do believe in discipline: showing up consistently, following through, and holding ourselves to a high standard.

Outside of work, many of us are active in sports - running, skiing, hiking - not as a mandate, but because we're drawn to the same mindset sport builds: consistency, resilience, and a long-term view. If you thrive in a flat, high-ownership environment, you'll feel right at home.

Why join Saga

  • A salary between €2,500–€3,000 gross per month (all-inclusive, based on a 40-hour week), depending on experience and skill set

  • The opportunity to shape the user experience of one of Europe's fastest-growing legal innovation companies, serving legal professionals worldwide.

  • High ownership and autonomy - you'll own product quality across the system and make visible improvements every week.

  • A collaborative international team that values craftsmanship, thoughtful engineering, and continuous improvement.
